Tomorrow is Happy Monday again!
Yes, my fellow Mondayers It is the day we all seem to dread, even if it is just a little (I must admit I try to love Mondays) It’s the whole beginning of a new cycle that gets me going! Being a fan of Big Blue as some may perceive it. I am always wondering what ways can we Business Owners, Employees, Driven individuals, and just the normal work-day magicians possibly do to get things done better and faster.
Please accept this disclaimer by no means do I mean that by you reading this you are not doing amazing work at super speed! I just want to share some ideas that I think can help! I for one am always looking at doing better and faster! Well before Monday starts let’s get into it! Here are some of the most pertinent tips I’ve come across that I really liked. I am sure we all already use some of them.
Wake up earlier
The hardest thing in the world is to wake up even earlier, but the idea behind this tip is not to wake up to get more done. The idea here is to wake up and spend some personal time. With you now who (Yes you!) start your week in a relaxing state have an early morning coffee. Think of your day, what you wish to achieve how, and why. Check up on your family's social accounts. Ease into it.
Worst tasks first
When you get to the office don’t immediately run for your e-mail inbox look at the tasks you need to do and do the ones you dislike the most first, this will help you get that sense of achievement that drives you to do even more. You will also now have fun whilst you’re doing the tasks you love.
Get out of your meetings
In the business world especially the corporate one, A meeting is almost as important as the CEO, well at least that is what a lot of corporate guru's think, It’s not that important. Try and only attend the meetings that really matter to your job also discuss with your colleagues and try to arrange all your meetings in certain ineffective work times meaning that when you do your best work, you're working and when you need a break you can have a meeting.
Take a few breaks
There truly is a lot of power in taking a break, I know some days you just don’t have any time for breaks. But as per the Pomodoro technique. Our concentration peaks for about 25 minutes at a time. So use this knowledge; work for 25 minutes and take a micro break for five minutes. This will allow you to continuously focus at your peak without over exerting your concentration keeping you efficient, fresh and active the whole day!
The two-minute task shuffle
Another clever whiz idea is to break your tasks into two minutes or more tasks, everything you can do in two minutes you can spread throughout your day and in-between the other longer tasks, making it an easy diversion from timeous tasks and helping you get more done. You should really try this it has worked on many days for me. However, don’t get caught up in only doing the quick and fast tasks it may hinder your overall completion rate!
No
Every one also advises on this point, and I admittedly is probably one of the worst perpetrators of this advice, learn to say no, or when you’re like me and can’t just learn to say not now later! It can become very disruptive if you are continuously interrupted. Having to stop to do all sorts of other little tasks and favors for your colleagues that isn’t scheduled can take time away from your most important tasks! You can easily add it to the schedule for later and make sure you don’t lose speed.
It’s time to move
I’ve been sitting for a while my mind is slowing and my spine is curling up into my chest, yes it’s a sign. Time to move! Get up, walk around, go outside and get some fresh air. Just move a bit even if it's for your five-minute break but change your physiology a bit. You will see it will leave you refreshed and revamped for another great session of working at your full capacity! Try it.
Catch up online
Our minds wander, we can just admit it! Being in an office away from loved one's friends and family our minds can get restless so schedule some time in the day to catch up on your friend’s social media's and emails. Again you have to really manage yourself and ensure you don’t spend the rest of the afternoon catching up, but a quick catch up can actually clear your mind and get your back into top focus for the rest of the day! Try it.
Today is a good day
It is not Monday yet however if you take some time today and work through what you need to do tomorrow and do a bit of planning on your day even if you’re doing it in a notebook and just a quick draft you can actually make your descent into the next week so much more effective. I being a firm believer of planning and planning and some more planning like this idea a lot (I’m already planning tomorrow!)
Thank you, I am definitely going to try all these things tomorrow (Some I already do) and let’s see if we can all make our days better and more effective and if you have any tips and tricks to increase our effectiveness please let me know! May you all have a great week!
